Wildhearts – Stormy In The North – Ginger Comments
By Kris | January 28, 2003
Ginger has written a few words about the chart success of ‘Stormy In The North’, which hit the UK singles chart at No. 17 on Sunday:
“Beat, bushed and very, very tired… but have just about enough energy to thank everyone from the mailing list, regular web site readers and Wildhearts fans around the country for getting us into the charts at No. 17, and putting our ugly mugs on TOTP this week. You know how much power you have now. Radio 1 can’t stop us, MTV can’t stop us, weekly ‘music’ papers can’t stop us. You have yourself to thank for this. This is our year, let’s fuck things up real good shall we? God, this must feel as good for you as it does for us! You are the best, it’s just as simple as that.”
You can catch the band’s Top Of The Pops performance on Friday 31st at 7:30pm (repeated early on Sunday 2nd at 3:25am). The Stormy video is also doing very well on Kerrang! TV where we hear it’s flying high in the request charts. You can still request the vid by calling 09067 533 433 (calls cost 75p/min) – the video number is 185. Or you can watch it on-line via the Stormy… mini-site.

Keep on voting, let’s see if we can keep it there all week! Finally, we’ve changed the font on this website slightly to fix the problems some people were having, where the font was too small – if anyone has any further problems please get in touch again.
Ginger Says – Saving the world and drinking fucking coffee
By Ginger | January 20, 2003
Anyone went back on their New Years resolutions yet? Mine is to stop drinking for three months. Failed a medical test, had no choice but to sober up and mend the liver. An old friend of mine died over Xmas from alcohol related liver failure. If you drink moderately, but every day, then I have been told (by a Doctor, no less!) that 24 hours a week drinking nothing but water will rejuvenate your liver. They’re amazing things, livers! Having said that, this only applies to people who WANT to stay alive.
I started/stopped January 1st, and will have my next drink April 1st. April fools day. And guess who’s going to make the biggest fool of themselves that day? Yep, you guessed right. At least you’ll have plenty of diaries and stuff to read in the meantime.
The single will be out by the time you read this, and you will have hopefully bought all three formats or are in the process of getting your trousers on and getting down to the shops pronto. Seriously, the B-sides are worth the purchase alone. Get it done, tell a friend, tell them to tell a friend… and let’s get this thing into the charts.
Wanna be part of history? Well, now’s yer chance.
The Wildhearts will be seeing you in Newcastle, Manchester and Nottingham when we appear for some in-stores to further promote the single. It’s all very exciting and fresh, and we’re taking along some acoustic guitars for a few un-rehearsed versions of any stray requests thrown into the pot. “Sky Babies” will, of course, be seriously ignored!
Things are looking very positive on all sides of the pond for us, and damn if this couldn’t just go and be our best year yet. But you already knew that! We will soon go into the studio to record yet more B-sides for the next single (“So Into You”, coming out in April). Shit, are we good to you or what?
Angie and I will have our little girl born in a couple of weeks too. Things couldn’t be busier. Oh, hang on… yes they could.
Silver Ginger 5 go into the studio to begin work on the new album in March. Man, there are some seriously amazing tracks on this album. It should eclipse even “Black Leather Mojo” for sheer quality, but will be a lot more diverse. It should be in the can by May, which gives me time to pack some bags and head off to record the Wildhearts album, which now looks set to be done in Vancouver, Canada.
There is a big Wildhearts tour coming up in late April, with dates to be announced VERY soon. We have a very special guest/guests for this tour, so book early kids.
War is underway, without anyone’s consent. George Bush is a cunt. And anyone supporting his bullying tactics is a cunt, because you are going to lose family members because of his cowardice. Sign any petition, join any rally but let your outrage be known. War is not the answer. Iraq is not the enemy. Bush is.
And where is Tony Blair? When are we going to be told what is going on? Or are we just going to have to wait for the body count on News At Ten? Fucking hell, we can’t even be bothered to give our troops the equipment to fight in extreme heat as the boots fucking melt! This would make a good comedy if Peter Sellers was still alive.
And just as funny (irony) is the news that Pete Townsend has been linked to Child Porn. I mean COME ON… submitting ones credit card details to a child porn web site isn’t an act of the completely innocent, is it? Whatever the outcome, this is crime enough to warrant a heavy penalty. If you wanted to research a subject so taboo for your book, you’d get your manager to obtain copies of videos from Amsterdam, and let your publisher, lawyer and local police know, not financially assist a web site in hurting children, right? Paying money to see children being abused isn’t going to help anyone, that alone is pretty fucking obvious. And if this IS fact then we can only hope that anyone found submitting credit card details, and funds, to these sites receives 100 times the level of abuse in the showers of prison as these poor children have suffered. If I hear anyone even telling jokes about hurting children I think they should be sent straight to jail with a target stapled to their asshole. Some things should be eternally sacred, and the safety of children is, and will always be, top of the pile.
This is already looking like the most fucked up year in living History. Good is going to seriously battle Evil in the next 11 months.
Good must win, but Evil has the weight advantage.
Do everything in your power to spread good will. Be patient with those around you. Try not to lose your temper with people, and instead show them a better way to behave. Do something nice for someone every day. Say something nice about someone every day. Tell someone you love them every morning. Spread the word and maybe it’ll catch on?
And store up all that hatred that you have inside you. You may need it. And we may need you. Hatred is a powerful energy, but a day may come where we may have to use it. But give peace a chance in the meantime. You never know, it could work.
And use your opinion. It is needed more now than it ever was. Please don’t just agree for the sake of keeping the peace. That is not what peace is about. Fighting for peace, although sounding like a contradiction in terms, means standing up for your opinion. You may educate someone in the process, you may even stop a World War.
There may be more stupid people in the world but that’s not to say they necessarily WANT to be stupid, it’s just that there’s more stupid people in the world!
Who can blame them? It’s a pretty large club. Still, it’s handy to remember that one more brain cell could make you king in the land of the brain-dead.
Sorry if this sounds like lecturing, but the time to be subtle is not now.
This is the time to be smart.
Peace, love, soul, honesty and brains,
Ginger
