star 12 May 2008 - Ice Hockey Hair - Preview song on MySpace

'Ice Hockey Hair', originally by Super Furry Animals is the final song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming "Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before Vol 1" Wildhearts covers album - which will be released next Monday (19th May 2008).

Some words from the band about the song:

Ritch says:

Had I known I was going to be asked to sing songs I'd suggested, I'd probably have chosen a couple of classics from Chad Valley Hits - My 1st karaoke Machine - Vol One. As it happens, I'm glad I didn't. I love this song nearly as much as I love the drum fill into the outro.

Ginger says:

This song gets the hairs standing up on every inch of my body. And to think that they kept this track for an E.P. SFA are one of our greatest treasures and this, for me, is their finest hour. Ritch handles the vocals impeccably. Man, how talented are The Wildhearts? What am I doing singing every song? No more, I tells ya. With voices like this they can all lend a hand singing on albums to come. If you don't already have every album by SFA then I suggest beginning with Radiator and working your way through the lot of em. They just have so many great songs and create amazing soundscapes to go along with the cool tunes.
I think Run Christian Run is my joint favourite with this one.

CJ says:

Really cool song and great to hear Ritch sing... he can even do that vocoder shit with his voice amazing... Think this could be my favourite... chilled.

Scott says:

I had never heard this song until it was talked about as being a cover. It's great, it's melodic, and it's catchy as fuck. I love the chorus. Every time I hear it I can't get the chorus out of my head. It also doesn't sound like something people would expect us to do. Perfect.

star 05 May 2008 - Carmelita - Preview song on MySpace

'Carmelita ', originally by Warren Zevon, is the next song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming "Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before Vol 1" Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from the band about the song:

Scott Says:

This song is one of my favourite songs of all time. It brings back so many memories. For the most part it reminds me of being up for days, high as a kite with Ginger in the middle of a canyon in Malibu. We were a fucking absolute mess. This song captures that 6-month period perfectly. Not to mention we listened to it every day. Kind of a theme song for the fucked up hermits that we were and it only made sense to cover it.

Ritch Says:

Ralph from Grand Theft Audio first played me Warren Zevon. Werewolves of London became a daily ritual on the GTA tour bus. I hadn't heard Carmelita until Scott suggested it and I'm glad he did. What a phenomenal vocal from the young lad.

Ginger says:

Our version is a lot more punked up that Warren's. Check out the original for some of the darkest country you will ever hear. Absolutely authentic and incredible.

star 29 Apr 2008 - The Wildhearts at Download 2008

The Wildhearts have been confirmed to appear at this year's Download Festival. The Wildhearts will appear on Sunday 15th June 2008.

Festival details are at the Download 2008 website.

Ginger Says:

It's great to finally play Download with The Wildhearts. I have fantasised for years about having our crowd show the other crowds who's loudest, and now we get to prove it. Our fans are gonna be the loudest, per unit, of the weekend, no contest. Our tent is going to achieve new levels of richter scale mayhem. Just wait until the fans of those other bands hear OUR LOT!!!. They're gonna fucking shit themselves. They honestly will not know what the fuck is going on.

Come on guys and gals, let's make aural history.

star 28 Apr 2008 - Unsung - Preview Song on MySpace

'Unsung', originally by Helmet, is the next song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming "Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before Vol 1" Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from CJ & Ginger about the song.

CJ says:
Hey it's Helmet, what can you say... Just one of the best bands to come out of the 90's and it was a joy to do this song.

Ginger Says:
We used to take acid and listen to the album 'Meantime', when we first started out, and wondered if we could ever be as amazing as Helmet. I don't think we matched their inventiveness and sheer brutality, especially live, but we felt confident to give this one a bash anyway, on CJ's request.

I think this song matches his vocals perfectly. Man, this one's a bitch to play. Helmet are just too damn good for anyone to copy.

'Meantime' is one of the greatest albums ever made, absolutely.

star 24 Apr 2008 - Wildhearts to play Hard Rock Hell II & Bulldog Bash

star 21 Apr 2008 - Understanding Jane - Preview Song on MySpace

'Understanding Jane', originally by The Icicle Works, is the first song being exclusively previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the the forthcoming "Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before Vol 1" Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from Ginger & Scott about the song.

Ginger:

This song was the blueprint for My Baby Is A Headfuck. I love Ian McNabb's vocals and lyrics. His solo albums are also amazing (check out his first, self titled solo release). I had imagined we'd do a great version of this song as it has The Wildhearts stamped all over it. Hey, we only copy the best.

Scott:

How could you not want to cover this song? I've tried to write this song a thousand times. When a band can write a song with the same chords and structure that you've heard 1000 times before, and STILL make the hairs on your arm stand up.... learn everything you can from them.

A new song will be previewed each Monday on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/thewildhearts) until the album release on the 19th May.

star 29 Mar 2008 - Ginger New York Residency

Ginger - Every Thursday In April @ Pianos, NY
Thursday April 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th

Advance tickets available at Ticketweb

Hey kids,
Hey cuties,

I'm playing New York.
Yeah, that's right....AGAIN!!!

Only this time it's again... and again, and again and...y'know

Again

Every Thursday, beginning April 3rd, I'll be appearing at Piano's with the best players in New York. Only the creme de la soul will be playing, with myself, YOUR favourite songs from my huge stash of choons.

Okay, okay, I get to decide exactly which songs are your favourite songs, but that's besides the point.

I'll be playing crazed up versions of my (er, your) absolute toppest tracks from my catalogue with various musicians, using various styles, with various instruments, from people with various hair-cuts. Most likely different people every week. Depending on who's the best people for the job that week. Every week.

EVERY GOD DAMNED WEEK.....I tell's ya.

On a Thursday.

Not only that but I'll be presenting the absolute weirdest, unique, odd-ball, bizarre and generally artistically essential of NYC talents on the bill. A different line up of talents every week.

On a Thursday.

From April 3rd.

Each bill will be rounded off with a colourful barrage of low-brow hi-jinx from New Yorks top comperes, MC's and orators, keeping the proceedings lively, sparky and warm.

An evening like this could only happen in New York. And only on a Thursday.

And only at Piano's.

Come with me on a journey of sonic and visual experimentation, where all tension will be jettisoned out on the sidewalk, and the remaining effervescence will permeate every pore and fibre of your fine persons, leaving you bathed in wonder, showered in amusement and douched with amazement.

Entertained? You will be.

Or your money back.

And we're not planning on parting with a penny.

Oh yes.

Oh, good God yes.

Be there, or be elsewhere.

And why would you be elsewhere?

That's right, you wouldn't.

Oh, no.

Oh, yes.

Amen

Ginger
