Gonna Lose Your Mind In Nottingham Rock City (Day 3)
By Ginger | September 20, 2009
Kerrang! came to review it, lots of friends came down to hear it, more than 700 advance tickets were sold for it and they even managed to turn off that awful air-con during it.
What? You might be asking yourself.
Nottingham Rock City, god dammit. One of the finest, most legendary gigs on the planet and when it’s full to the rafters, as it was this evening, it’s a place of awe inspiring lunacy. You could hear the crowd cheering like crazy when Black Spiders were churning out their motor fuelled dirt rock. Man, how loud are they going to be for us?
Answer, VERY. Although Bristol had set the standard pretty high the previous night Nottingham eat standards with chips. Absolutely astounding reception from this wonderful crowd, and one that I was so honoured to have Kerrang! present at. If this doesn’t get a 5/5 review then at least everyone there knows it was, in fact, easily a 5/5 gig.
I live for nights like this, when the band and the audience are so tuned into each other that any night could have been Saturday night. Nice, then, that this was, in fact, a Saturday night.
Especially great to see Pikey Dan looking so happy with his beautiful new girlfriend.
Gig of the tour, so far. We love you Nottingham.
Gx

Easily a 5/5. If it isn’t, well, Kerrang offices deserve another trashing!

Just got back to London after this gig – what can I say, what a show – what a band!!!!
I sang and bounced my way through the whole event, couldn’t wish for a better show. Hearing
!Chuzpah! live in it’s entirety was pure magic.
Can’t wait for the London show (less travelling involved) but just as much fun, that’s a guarantee – 5/5 anyday!!

Black Spiders one of the best support bands I’ve see in ages.
Why don’t you guys ever do a live CD/DVD recording at Rock City? I’ve seen you all over the country and for some reason Rock City just comes alive everytime you play there. Best crowd and friendliest bar none.
Your welcome back anytime.

Rock city when full and buzzing is the best venue I’ve ever been to, and full and buzzing when full of vocal happy wildhearts fans is the closest i get to a religious epiphany! Fantastic show, even the handwash guy in the loo didn’t annoy me! More tours and more gigs at rock city please!

Normally do the Wolverhampton gigs (closer to me) but since no Wolverhampton on this tour, and Birmingham’s on my daughters birthday, we decided to go to Nottingham.
What a decision!! Best Wildhearts gig I’ve been to, and I’ve been going since ’94. Two fantastic support bands, and a split set by the best band out. Doesn’t get any better.
Everybody was friendly, there was no antagonism from anybody in the crowd, which there has been in the past, and the place fucking rocked!!
Even though it’s only been two days since the gig, I’m now waiting for the guys to arrange more. See you all out there! (and for Gingers’ information, he’d probably have been better off playing “In the night garden”!)
Enjoy!

This was my 7th wildhearts gig, and definately the best. Good crowd, good venue, and a band on top form!
You guys are so tight when you play it gives me goosebumps, and I love the new album.
Enjoy the rest of the tour and come back soon.

Like most people I’m still buzzing 2 days later, absolutely amazing, the vibe was fantastic, I dragged my wife along with me who wasn’t a particular fan before the gig but she is now a fully fledged fan. Gingers between song banter was great and funny as usual. In my opinion the ‘hearts are one of most important British bands of the last 20 years but sadly the majority of the rock press and media seem loathe to award them that accolade, it really sticks in my throat that bands like Oasis are regarded as “Legends” when they’re just regurgitating, mediocre Dad Rock who think that they’re acting like Rock Stars when really they’re just immature arrogant twats…but anyway, enough Oasis bashing, I was just pointing out how unfair and ignorant the Rock press and media have been to the mighty Wildhearts over the years.
To sum up: If there is such a thing as a bad ‘hearts gig then …well lets face it, there ain’t is there.
Guys, if your reading this, we need more British tours please and come to Wales next time and I’ll buy you all a pint
Cheers

I haven’t seen him since waaay before I left K-Town! Glad he’s good.

Went to the Nottingham gig and it was by far the greatest Wildhearts gig i’ve been to. I didn’t want it to end! Tempted to go to stoke on friday to get another hit but afraid it won’t live up to nottingham. Love the new album. x

So happy to see so much love for Rock City from non-Nottingham people. I relocated to Nottingham 8 years ago and love the place, especially Rock City! Both the town itself and RC get a really bad press, but I’ve never understood why, and RC is my favourite venue of any I’ve been to across the UK and Europe.
The gig, needless to say, was the best I’ve seen in many months and the new album is flat-out fantastic. If you read this, guys, Nottingham will always be proud to have you back!

I think that this has real potential. The trick is to keep it on focus. The WEA Calendar 2012 photo cpmeotition should have its own blog linked from this one and other WEA sites. Then that site is neat and contained. There are special themes for photographic blogs by the way. I am happy to drink a cup of coffee and discuss this kind of thing should you wish. Keep up the sterling work Judith,Alan
