A message from Ginger…

By Ginger | June 17, 2008

…..to everyone who came to Download festival and made our appearance the most memorable of our lives.

You guys and gals made me so proud.

I had hoped you’d rise to the occasion on the day but you far exceeded my expectations in every possible way.

Best crowd of the weekend? No doubt about it whatsoever.

Even Kiss would kill for our audience.

We love you all.

Ice Hockey Hair – Preview song on MySpace

By Kris | May 12, 2008

‘Ice Hockey Hair’, originally by Super Furry Animals is the final song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming “Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Vol 1” Wildhearts covers album – which will be released next Monday (19th May 2008).

Some words from the band about the song:

Ritch says:

Had I known I was going to be asked to sing songs I’d suggested, I’d probably have chosen a couple of classics from Chad Valley Hits – My 1st karaoke Machine – Vol One. As it happens, I’m glad I didn’t. I love this song nearly as much as I love the drum fill into the outro.

Ginger says:

This song gets the hairs standing up on every inch of my body. And to think that they kept this track for an E.P. SFA are one of our greatest treasures and this, for me, is their finest hour. Ritch handles the vocals impeccably. Man, how talented are The Wildhearts? What am I doing singing every song? No more, I tells ya. With voices like this they can all lend a hand singing on albums to come. If you don’t already have every album by SFA then I suggest beginning with Radiator and working your way through the lot of em. They just have so many great songs and create amazing soundscapes to go along with the cool tunes.
I think Run Christian Run is my joint favourite with this one.

CJ says:

Really cool song and great to hear Ritch sing… he can even do that vocoder shit with his voice amazing… Think this could be my favourite… chilled.

Scott says:

I had never heard this song until it was talked about as being a cover. It’s great, it’s melodic, and it’s catchy as fuck. I love the chorus. Every time I hear it I can’t get the chorus out of my head. It also doesn’t sound like something people would expect us to do. Perfect.

Carmelita – Preview song on MySpace

By Kris | May 5, 2008

‘Carmelita ‘, originally by Warren Zevon, is the next song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming “Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Vol 1” Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from the band about the song:

Scott Says:

This song is one of my favourite songs of all time. It brings back so many memories. For the most part it reminds me of being up for days, high as a kite with Ginger in the middle of a canyon in Malibu. We were a fucking absolute mess. This song captures that 6-month period perfectly. Not to mention we listened to it every day. Kind of a theme song for the fucked up hermits that we were and it only made sense to cover it.

Ritch Says:

Ralph from Grand Theft Audio first played me Warren Zevon. Werewolves of London became a daily ritual on the GTA tour bus. I hadn’t heard Carmelita until Scott suggested it and I’m glad he did. What a phenomenal vocal from the young lad.

Ginger says:

Our version is a lot more punked up that Warren’s. Check out the original for some of the darkest country you will ever hear. Absolutely authentic and incredible.

The Wildhearts at Download 2008

By Kris | April 29, 2008

The Wildhearts have been confirmed to appear at this year’s Download Festival. The Wildhearts will appear on Sunday 15th June 2008.

Festival details are at the Download 2008 website.

Ginger Says:

It’s great to finally play Download with The Wildhearts. I have fantasised for years about having our crowd show the other crowds who’s loudest, and now we get to prove it. Our fans are gonna be the loudest, per unit, of the weekend, no contest. Our tent is going to achieve new levels of richter scale mayhem. Just wait until the fans of those other bands hear OUR LOT!!!. They’re gonna fucking shit themselves. They honestly will not know what the fuck is going on.

Come on guys and gals, let’s make aural history.

Unsung – Preview Song on MySpace

By Kris | April 28, 2008

‘Unsung’, originally by Helmet, is the next song being previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the forthcoming “Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Vol 1” Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from CJ & Ginger about the song.

CJ says:
Hey it’s Helmet, what can you say… Just one of the best bands to come out of the 90’s and it was a joy to do this song.

Ginger Says:
We used to take acid and listen to the album ‘Meantime’, when we first started out, and wondered if we could ever be as amazing as Helmet. I don’t think we matched their inventiveness and sheer brutality, especially live, but we felt confident to give this one a bash anyway, on CJ’s request.

I think this song matches his vocals perfectly. Man, this one’s a bitch to play. Helmet are just too damn good for anyone to copy.

‘Meantime’ is one of the greatest albums ever made, absolutely.

Wildhearts to play Hard Rock Hell II & Bulldog Bash

By Kris | April 24, 2008

Hard Rock Hell II is on the 6th December in Prestayn, Wales and Bulldog Bash on Saturday 9th August

Understanding Jane – Preview Song on MySpace

By Kris | April 21, 2008

‘Understanding Jane’, originally by The Icicle Works, is the first song being exclusively previewed on The Wildhearts MySpace site from the the forthcoming “Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Vol 1” Wildhearts covers album.

Some words from Ginger & Scott about the song.

Ginger:

This song was the blueprint for My Baby Is A Headfuck. I love Ian McNabb’s vocals and lyrics. His solo albums are also amazing (check out his first, self titled solo release). I had imagined we’d do a great version of this song as it has The Wildhearts stamped all over it. Hey, we only copy the best.

Scott:

How could you not want to cover this song? I’ve tried to write this song a thousand times. When a band can write a song with the same chords and structure that you’ve heard 1000 times before, and STILL make the hairs on your arm stand up…. learn everything you can from them.

A new song will be previewed each Monday on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/thewildhearts) until the album release on the 19th May.
