We7 / Deezer - Alternatives to Spotify

Postby Mattie » 20th Feb 11, 21:02

Hi, just giving a mention to these two streaming sites that act as an excellent alternative to Spotify, as I know people who came late to the Spotify party now have to make do with a time-limited version, and the adverts can piss people off.

Both of these require no additional programs to be downloaded, you don't really need a log-in on Deezer but it's necessary to use WE7 properly, all free though.

Like Spotify, this is ad-funded

It's SUPPOSED to play a 5 second clip before each song you play... but for some reason on my browser the player application seems to go slightly wrong and it will just play track after track without an ad (but removing my ability to to access my current playlist.. not really a problem). Even if you do get the ads though they aren't quite as annoying as Spotify ones.

Sometimes you will find an album only has preview tracks available but in most cases it's the full songs.

I think this might just be UK/Ireland.
You can also build up 'ad-free days' just by listening to it if you have a log-in.

This doesn't have any audio adverts, but the library seems to have quite a few more gaps - possibly because it's a french site with different licensing agreements.

A combination of these seems to find most things you would want, and it's far easier to direct people to listen to something on one of these than with Spotify simply because it just uses your browser.

Neither library is perfect, nor is Spotify's, but they all complement each other very well.

So, that said.. perhaps people would like to use this thread for sharing links to albums they might not otherwise get a chance to hear.

I'll start off with a link to my favourite Swiss band's new album
Favez - En Garde!:
