Tim Minchin

Postby my3dtvtan » 10th Nov 08, 18:23

Ok so is anyone else on here aware of the genius that is Tim Minchin?

Ive been a LONG time fan and got my first oppertunity to see him live the other nite in Runcorn. I have to say it was one of the best shows I have ever bin too and I laughed constantly. The guy is just incredible. He has one of the best voices, is one of the best wordsmiths and by far the best piano player in comedy. I urge any fans of Bill Bailey, the piano or laughing to check him out. Heres some of his finest moments and if you give a moment of your time to check him out I promise you wont regret it!

I could go on but I hope you discover the rest for yourself. He is a legend and should be selling out arenas rather than a 300 seater theater in Runcorn ffs.

That's odd, I've just been reading about him somewhere else. Some of those YouTube clips are really good - there's one of him singing Hallelujah in Edinburgh which is stunning.

He's coming to Leeds soon, but it's the same weekend I'm in London. No problem I think, he's playing nearby in Hudds too. But I can't make it to that one either. Ah well, he'll probably be back around soon right? Nope, touring Australia for 6 months.

Just been doing the washing up (that's me, living on the edge! Image) listening to these - great, really enjoyed them Image

Investigation would suggest there's no DVD but is an audio CD "with friends" anyone know anything about this?

A swift google would reveal that there is a DVD, out today infact. Spooky.
Available exclusively through the HMV website, which currently isn't working.
But you can look at a picture of it here: www.timminchin.com

You sure about that?

Double check it, because of the way the copyright laws are in Australia the majority of DVD's released over there are released as Regions 2 & 4 which will play over here.

Failing that get yourself a copy of AnyDVD which will let you play it on your PC without changing the region coding.

Most DVD players can be hacked to play any DVD's these days anyway. As long as you don't buy a Sony or a Toshiba!!!

Don't think he's so amazing by himself, though you should check out his work with the real genius that is Mark Watson, on his radio shows "Mark Watson makes the world significantly better", you can buy the first series wherever, second should be out shortly. Though I'm faily certain he appeared only is the first.

But yeah if you lot like him seriously check out some episodes......

I had a look around and there are a fair number of review sites that list it as region free PAL - Clicky - So it should play Ok.

My Sony player was region free out of the box, although that was a few years back - The place I got it from specialised in Region Free players, although I can't remember what they were called now (I think they got bought out and changed their name).

Saw him on The Comedy Store on Paramount Comedy Channel
Liked what I saw (well, heard)

One friday a few weeks ago I was browsing the Metro, and there was an article on him advertising a gig on the Saturday (in Derby, The Assembly Rooms)

I tried booking online.. system wasn't working
I tried again first thing in the morning.. "please ring the ticket office"

I did... SOLD OUT

He's very good. Name-dropping time (Assuming you can actually name drop after someone's already mentioned someone... Maybe I'm just dropping his name harder) but I was in a play he did the music for, back in Perth before his comedy career took off. He was a big theatre nob back in the day, although the comedy's definitely paid off for him in a much bigger way.

So, um, there you have it. Hoorah n' shite. Very funny guy though!
