London Calling video setting

Does anyone know if it's at all possible to get access/onto the pier that the Clash filmed London Calling on? I have an urge for some sort of pilgrimage as I have nothin on first week of July.

According to Route 19 Revisted by Marcus Gray, it's the Royal Festival Pier in Battersea Park between Albert and Chelsea Bridge (p409 of book). If you're a Clash fan, it's a great book and his other books are good too. If you wanna make a day of it, I'm sure Mojo published a Clash London map in one of their Clash articles - but my memories of which issue are hazy - try google, my back issues are stashed in work due to lack of space.

Funnily enough I've just started reading that book. I've been thinking of doing something like this for a while but rewatching Westway to The World and this book has given me the push to do it.
Cheers for the heads up, I'll try track the map down.

My pleasure - enjoy the jaunt. Went and played the LP after reading your post, damn I miss that band and Strummer.

Yeah me to, really wish I was around to see them at the time but alas I was but a mere toddler when Combat Rock came out and had only just been born when Sandinista came out I think, might have been just after.

Have you read Joe Strummers biography? I'd like to say I had but I got half way through it and a certain mental baldy bassist borrowed it and two and half years on he still hasn't given it back and the cheeky sods moved to Bristol now.....hmmm wonder if Tich can get it back for me?

Saw 'em at the last ever British show here at the Locarno in Bristol...Ace! Seem to remember Jones poleaxing a skin with his geetar for something or other. Strummer biog is relly good and worth finishing - quite moving too.

You sir are git of the jammiest kind.
Sod it, think I'll just buy another copy of it tomorrow to read after I've finished Route 19.
I'm really enjoying reading it but it's a bit heavy going don't y'think? The author has crammed so much in that I'm not even half way through the first section and already know the lives of strummer, headon, jones, simonin and Chimes via leaven inside out.
No idea Headon played for Sparks very briefly, I think I met the drummer who took over from him once.

I am an old git of the jammiest kind - hence had the opportunity to see some good shows... Route 19 is quite a chewy read, probably could have been slimmed down to something more digestible. Salewicz is the better author - want to find his Marley book for summer reading.
