Music and Lyrics by David Walls

Postby Zoloft » 12th Jan 13, 04:34

More than a few months back, on Formspring, Ginger eluded to a song he wrote and sold to a band who was looking for a hit single, because he needed some cash. He was not forthcoming about what song/band that was. Does anyone know what song/band he was referring to?

This has bugged me for ages.

I've even heard a couple of songs where I think: "Hmmm wonder whether it was this one".

The most recent of this - was this one.

21st Century Girls - 21st Century Girls.

The reason I thought this was not in terms in its execution (which is terribly done) but the chorus melodies are quite Ginger in a way.

Heading over to youtube now to give it a spin. I understand Ginger is ashamed that he did a song(s) exclusively for the cash, but, hell, we've all been there, and I'd imagine the vast majority of us want to have it, simply become we are completists!

I`ve also thought about this song.Would Ginger/David Walls, still be credited as the composer on the record/cd,and or,in the sleeve notes. Also,is there a confidentiallity clause in any contract to do with this sale, because no band has admitted to it happening.

Another daft shout would be:

(only on the basis because they were on the same label [Gut] as the Wildhearts)

The reason I put David Walls in the topic, because he is only very loosely associated with that name, it might be how he is credited, and the vast majority of people would be none-the-wiser (present company excepted, of course). But, very possible of course, he went for the completely anonymous route and even sold the songwriting credits to the band. If it was a band looking for a hit single, I would think it would be a fairly well known band, who had hits in the past, but seems to have lost the songwriting touch. A completely unknown band wouldn't (I'd imagine) be able to afford to hire a "ghost writer."
