Ginger Q

If you, SG5 or The Wildhearts were asked to record a song for a tribute album to Joey Ramone, what would it be and why?
Percy

A

If it was The Wildhearts I'd do Wart Hog, 'cos it sounds like us! If it was SG5 I'd do something like Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio? or something anthemic. I'd love to be asked to appear on one!

Q

Having checked your site regularly to find out when SilverGinger 5 are playing London again, I was a bit bloody disappointed to see that you're playing the Underworld in Camden. Don't get me wrong, I know what you look like 'cos I saw you at both the Scala and the Astoria. But that's my point - at the Underworld you can't see the fuckin' band! Oh well, next time maybe...
Gary

A

We didn't pick the venue, it was already booked for the Metal Hammer festival. Having said that, it's gonna be crushed, deafening and mental. It'll work, trust me.

Q

I know that you don't normally do covers of other bands' songs, but how about a cover of Lola by The Kinks for one of the B-sides to the new Ginger singles? I know that they're one of your influences, and it's a fave song of mine. I reckon you could do a killer cover of it, waddya think?
Kev Hardwick

A

I'm planning an album of cover versions for early next year.

Q

I heard that The Wildhearts were playing the Glasgow Garage, but I was really disappointed when I heard that you have to be 18 or over to get in. That totally sucks, man. Why?
John Philip

A

Dunno, man. You'd have to ask the venue or petition for it to be held in Glasgow Barrowlands. Just blag it, man. Pull some hairs outta yer arse and glue them on your top lip, or something.

Q

When The Wildhearts decided to smash up the Kerrap! HQ (nice one, lads), did you ever get sent a bill or have the Old Bill on your case for it?
Joel Lander

A

They gave us a bill, we never paid it, we split up. Maybe they'll want the money back now!

Q

I read that you'd submitted some songs for the last Alice Cooper album, Brutal Planet. Did he use any of them?
Mike Roberts

A

No. I heard that he was going back to his roots to show these youngsters how to do it. Excited as hell, I wrote a few ditties for him. I was sadly gutted when I found out he was trying to be Marilyn Manson / Trent Reznor. Brutal Planet? It is when shite like that album is dished out by legends.

Q

About a week ago I was watching the 1980s classic Flash Gordon (I was in a state of semi-consciousness) when I heard the word Abhoria used. Waking up a bit, I learned that it was a part of Ming's world. Is this connected to your Abhoria in any way?
Simon

A

I honestly thought I'd made up that word! Maybe it got stuck in my head from watching this movie. Who knows? Oh well...

Q

I have almost the whole Wildhearts back catalogue, plus SG5's Black Leather Mojo, and I just cannot believe the quality of every single track. Fantastic! But one that really sticks out in my mind is Dangerlust. I just love that song.  Can you tell me anything about that track?
Eddie

A

It was written when Snake sang for the band. It sounded like the best song in our set at the time. I was always fond of that track. The live versions were far superior to the studio version.

Q

Do I detect a little bit of the solo from AC/DC's Shoot To Thrill in the solo from Divine Imperfection, or am I crazy? They just sound too close to be a coincidence.
James Benesh

A

I wouldn't trust a guitar player that didn't rip off Angus from time to time!

Q

Who would "freak out thinkin' about old times" in Thunderfuck?
Macinnes

A

That's a secret.

Q

Has becoming a father changed your outlook on life?
Macinnes

A

Yeah, I take certain things more seriously, and other things less seriously.

Q

What song makes you feel most knackered when you play it live? I'd take a guess at something like Caffeine Bomb.
Simon

A

No, actually it'd be something like TV Tan or I Wanna Go Where The People Go, songs with loads and loads of words to sing. They kill.

Q

Are you and Nicke Royale in a competition to see who can be in as many bands as possible? Not that anyone minds.
Arm

A

Yeah, looks like it. Having said that, the competition doesn't end until we do a Super$hit 666 album together. Right?

Q

Can you please tell us what really happened with the Reading festival this year?  Did the promoters really just refuse to put you on the bill? Or did you ask for a headline spot or more money?
Paul Pomerantz

A

No, they literally refused us a slot. Even after receiving nearly 2000 signatures from the mailing list. That's a lot of tickets, y'know? And that ain't all the people that would be into seeing us play. It doesn't make sense. Especially as the Mean Fiddler, who put on Reading, are promoting our London show that has almost sold out!

Q

What do you think of Feeder's newfound chart success?
Skye

A

I think it's a healthy bit of competition for The Wildhearts!

Q

What do you and the rest of the band do in the minutes before you go onstage? Sing a song? Meditate? Pray?
Jimmy Andersson

A

No, a drink and a piss is usually enough for us.

Q

I've just got my ticket for the Newcastle gig from Tunny at Changes One, and I'm looking forward to having the shit rocked out of me for the first time! (I never got a chance to see The Wildhearts play before.)  Do you consider the Newcastle gigs or the London gigs to be "playing on home turf"?
NAD

A

Yeah, Newcastle is a real homecoming and always will be. London is fun too, apart from everyone that hasn't been in touch all year wanting in on the guest list.

Q

Can you give us any idea as to what The Wildhearts will be playing on tour, bearing in mind that CJ and Stidi weren`t around for the later stuff? Will there be Endless, Nameless songs? My wife is a "music" fan who has never liked the Wildhearts, but I've persuaded her to come to the Forum gig, and I know she'll enjoy it or I'll leave her in London!
Danny Bayliss

A

Whatever your favourite songs are, we'll probably be playing 'em. As for Endless, Nameless stuff, I'd imagine we'll play Anthem.

Q

Will you be selling Wildhearts T-shirts at the gigs?
Chris Davies

A

Sure will.

Q

What are your favourite Wildhearts, Clam Abuse and SilverGinger 5 songs?
Chris Davies

A

Wildhearts - Sky Babies (that's just today)
SilverGinger 5 - Church Of The Broken Hearted (again, that's just today)
Clam Abuse - Unlucky In Love (again...)
