Ginger Q

Good on ya, fella - it sounds like things are finally gonna be kicking off big time. Reassure me that SG5 is still gonna be a going concern, though. The two SG5 gigs in London were the most exciting live events I've ever seen, bar none.
Ian Sturgeon

A

I will never get bored playing with Conny and the guys. They are just about the most talented guys I could ever imagine playing with. I intend on keeping the SG5 thing alive for as long as people want it.

Q

I've just read the new site intro and this is like all my Christmases and birthdays rolled into one. Just a couple of questions:
1) Does this mean that the SG5 album is no longer getting a UK release?
2) If The Wildhearts are to tour again (or record - please), is Ritch going to be the drummer ?

Mutt2K

A

1) I intend to have the album available on the web site in the very near future, for a bargain price too. As for a release, I just don't know, and can't trust the industry enough to guess. I sincerely fucking hope so, though!
2) If Ritch wasn't the drummer it would be really weird for me to do. Having said that, he is very happy with GTA so I honestly don't know what his decision will be. I can only keep my fingers crossed.

Q

How did this "International Hillbilly Cousins" stuff with Jason Ringenberg come about? Did he approach you or what?
FiSH

A

Yeah, he did. It's amazing what can happen if you're a fan and don't go cold on your past.

Q

You've said that The Wildhearts will "do some shows". Is this likely to involve a full UK tour, or just some one-offs and festival dates?
Chris

A

At the moment I'm just concentrating on doing some festival shows. If we can pull that off, then we can do the entire do!

Q

How's Danny?
Gary

A

Danny is in fine form. The lad's a nutcase and should be applauded for that very reason.

Q

How's the pug?
Alex

A

Ugly. Very, very ugly.

Q

Do you have a contract with BC Rich or do you have an endorsement with them?
Jimmy Andersson

A

I have a deal with them that goes like this: they give me a guitar for free and let me break others at cost price. It works out kind of expensive but it's lots of fun. Can't complain, know what I mean?

Q

If SilverGinger 5 go on tour, do you think that the band will have the same line-up as it had at the Scala and LA2 gigs?
Jimmy Andersson

A

I'm very happy with these guys and have no intention of changing anyone. Yet!

Q

What comics did you used to read? I heard that when you went to America you left them all behind. So, I've got know, are you, like me, a big Judge Dredd / 2000 AD fan, or are you a tight-pant-wearing supercheese fanboy? Do you know anything about the old comic, Action?
RC Culley

A

The only comics I used to read were Love And Rockets, Hate, and Answer Me (can you call that a comic? Having said that, can you even call Love And Rockets a comic?). I used to read Action as a kid. I used to hate all that Judge Dredd / 2000 AD stuff, but Action had real gore, and lots of it. Hookjaw the shark? That was really sick shit until it got banned. I'd love to get hold of those first half a dozen editions of Action.

Q

Do you use any kind of wax or anything else on your dreads? Mine are looking a bit shit at the roots.
Glenn-o

A

The best way to get your dreads to look good is to get a professional to tidy them up once in a while. It takes fucking ages but is well worth it. Look around for a shop that specialises in dreadlocks. There are quite a few around - one of the better spin-offs that the 'trendy dreadlock look' spawned.

Q

How come Motorvate wasn't on Black Leather Mojo?
Mickey Walls

A

Because until SG5 played it live I never understood what a fabulous track it really is. It should've been on there, you're right.

Q

Do you think that Geordie In Wonderland should be played at Newcastle United matches?
Steve Mackle

A

Of course it should. Having said that, when we sent it to Kevin Keegan he thought the song was called GEORGE In Wonderland. Very close to a twat, that bloke.

Q

Was Super$hit 666 a one-shot deal or will there be any more?
Chris Davies

A

Oh man, I would love to do a full length album with S$666. The guys are pretty busy but it isn't impossible to imagine it happening as soon as this year.

Q

I finally got hold of an import copy of Black Leather Mojo today. There are some cracking songs on there, but the sound mix is so lightweight! I'd have liked a bit more bollocks in the sound, a bit more oomph. Someone else told me she thought it was 'over-produced', but I wouldn't agree with that.
Dom

A

Just goes to show that opinions are like arseholes... the world is full of them, but seeing as they're round the back they're easy to ignore.

Q

I was wondering what your thinking was behind the song Too Many Hippies. It seems to have a link with John (King of Music) Lennon, as Yoko Ono herself appears to be wailing away in the background to great effect. I'm sure it can't be a dig at John because usually you're switched on taste-wise (Groop Dogdrill, the Rolling Stones).
George

A

While I think that John Lennon was pussywhipped to the point of appearing a little pathetic, and at times hopelessly under-educated on issues he apparently stood for (I mean, bed aid, for fucks sake? And any artist that lets Yoko sing / wail on his / her records deserves to have the term 'artist' removed from their title), I could never deserve to have a 'dig' at him. Without him I would probably be writing songs that sound more like Frank Sinatra for a start. Regardless of the fact that he wouldn't have looked quite so cool had he been standing next to Keef Richards and not Paul McCartney, he was still one of the major influences in musical history and will make every history book slightly thicker due to his contribution... albeit from appearing to most as some kind of guru, rather than an angry everyman with conviction and talent beyond his peers.

Q

What do you have to say about the way boybands and manufactured pop bands are crippling the British music industry?
Ian Revell

A

Boybands are not crippling this industry, the public is. They're the idiots buying this shit. Remember, the industry can't exist without the public.

Q

Black Leather Mojo features the London Community Gospel Choir. How did this come about, and was it your idea?
Chris Davies

A

The songs featuring the gospel singers were written with gospel singers in mind. I would have never recorded those songs without them. We got in touch with a few different choirs but the LCGC had the most love and belief in what they do. They were phenomenal to work with. It was a very moving experience.

Q

Were you happy with the Japanese Moodsings And Roundabouts boxed set?
Bill K

A

Are you kidding? Have you seen it? When Sex, America, Cheap Trick came out I thought 'that's when you know you've made it'. Then I saw Moodswings And Roundabouts and it floored me. It's just about the coolest 'me' related thing I ever saw. Buy it forthwith and waste no more time lest ye run the risk of missing out on this most beautious of product.

Q

Do you like Redd Kross?
Mickey

A

Kind of... I liked the Phaseshifter album, and Third Eye had some good moments. It's just that they're liable to write something awful and put it next to something amazing. I don't really understand that.

Q

Saxon. Denim And Leather or Power And The Glory?
Big John Stud

A

Er, can I have Marks and Spencer?

Q

On the sleeve for the Tokyo Suits Me album, there's a photo of leopard print Converse shoes. Are they custom made or are they available to buy?
Gareth Strange

A

They're mine and they are available to buy. I haven't seen them around for a long time though, so happy hunting. And if you find any, mine's a size 9!

Q

Your Les Paul is covered in little stickers. What are they of? Are they just little things you've found and thought would look good on your guitar?
Craig Smith

A

Yeah, kind of. I always saw myself as a 'stickered guitar guy' way before I could afford a guitar. I love the way no one can copy your idea without having some personal input themselves. I still buy packets of cool stickers everywhere I go. I'm just a stupid kid and hope that I always stay that way!

Q

When you record in studios, what type of storage medium do you prefer to use? Reel? ADAT? Digital (eg computer hard drive)? (Stafford)

A
